About Amsterdam

As soon as you arrive in Amsterdam it is quite clear that there is more to the city than sex and drugs. It has a very calm atmosphere, the locals are civilized and there is a lot of culture to explore. It’s also an incredibly pretty city, with the canals winding their way through the city, the well-kept town houses and interesting boutiques.

Although the red light district is usually swamped with stag parties, it is still worth a quick walk through. Then head to Jordaan for a quieter and perhaps more sophisticated experience, here you’ll find lots of interesting boutiques and galleries.

Amsterdam should definitely be experienced by bike and the canal tours are also a nice way to see the city from a different perspective. Amsterdam is an outdoor city with lots of parks and outdoor cafés but it's still just as enjoyable for a winter escape.

Shopping: The Waterlooplein Flea Market is great for antiques and vintage clothes.

Culture: The Van Gogh Museum has a great collection of his sketches. The Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw and Stedelijk museum are also great places to visit.

Restaurants: Dutch cuisine is not exactly world-renowned but the city does have some interesting restaurants to offer. Try the Balthazar’s keuken for a cosy and unpretentious restaurant experience.

Nightlife: The Paradiso nightclub which is set in an old church is a fun place for a Saturday night.
