About Geneva

Geneva has been labelled the Peace city and the Global city and has good reason to lay claim to these prestigious titles. The city holds the United Nations, International Red Cross, The World Health Organisation and many more international organisations. Visitors will find that the citizens to continue the open-minded and welcoming nature, that has in its past helped the city become the seat of peace and international aid. Being multi-lingual is almost assumed amongst those working and living in Geneva and the quality of life and cost of living are amongst the highest in the world.

The most important site to enjoy in Geneva is naturally Lake Geneva. From here it is possible to view the Jet d'eau (water fountain) and even Mount Blanc. After taking in this natural beauty, pass by the famous Flower Clock, The English Gardens and some of the other many significant monuments in this area of the city. For those wishing to witness Geneva's contribution to world peace a visit to the United Nations Office is also recommended.

Timing your visit according to the seasons will depend upon your tastes for leisure. Enjoy a multitude of world class Ski fields in winter or take to Lake Geneva in summer for sailing, windsurfing and water sports. Geneva holds festivals all year round including the Fetes de Geneva celebrated in August and the Geneva Winter Carnival and Christmas Festival celebrated over the colder months.

Restaurants: Although Geneva can be pricey, it does provide great restaurants for those on a tighter budget, many of which are in the Plainpalais area such as the tapas and snack cafe Bigoudi 13.

Shopping: Perhaps more a city ideal for the window shopper, as Geneva holds a higher and finer quality of merchandise. However indulging in some Swiss chocolates is almost a must as is marvelling at the Swiss watches and clocks.

Culture: With over 40 Public and Private Museums Geneva is never going to disappoint those wanting to experience something intellectual or artistic. The Art and History Museum is a must see.

Nightlife: Take a trip across the river and enjoy the Bohemian atmosphere and creative prowess of the artisans in Courage village. Stay on into the evening and enjoy the jazz and night clubs of the area.
