About Istanbul
Istanbul is an intriguing destination, divided by the Bosphorus with Europe on one side, Asia on the other and this has resulted in a rich cultural mix. It’s also a good combination of ancient and modern, which is clearly signified by its eclectic skyline consisting of domes, minarets, skyscrapers and towers.To get a view of the city that will take your breath away, take the boat to the Asian part of the city and stand on the stern looking back as Sultanahmet rises from the sea. Visit the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia and then escape the swarms of tourists by heading over to the Fener and Balat districts for a peaceful stroll around the old streets. Sweat it out at one of the traditional bath houses such as the baraque Cagaloglu Hamami, which dates back to 1741.
Nightlife: The local party people are found in the Beyoglu district. Türkü Bar is great for dancing the night away to Turkish music or for more of a club experience head to Babylon.
Culture: The Basilica Cistern is an extraordinary feat of engineering from the AD532; a forest of 8 metre columns beneath the busy streets of the city.
Shopping: The Grand Bazaar can be an exhausting experience but the rewards always outweigh the hassle. The streets around trendy Beyoglu are lined with hip boutiques and bars.
Restaurant: Meyhanes are a mix between a wine house and a restaurant, and serve delicious meze. Some of the best are in Nevizade Sokak.
