About Lille
Lille is a large northern French city but has its own unique Flemish twist, and a vibrant atmosphere mostly due to its youthful population. The Eurostar and the title of European Capital of Culture 2004, have both recently assisted this once gritty industrial city in becoming a delightful, friendly and creative place.The centre of Lille consists of two parts: the old town (Vieux Lille) and the new town centre, separated by the Boulevard de la Liberté. The old town features narrow cobbled streets, boutiques, cafes and chic restaurants – a perfect place to sit back and soak up the ambience of the city. A visit to the massive ramparts of the five pointed citadel, in the North of the city, gives an interesting insight into the military importance this city once held to France.

Restaurants: The more typical restaurants are known as estaminets and many fantastic popular eateries can be found in Lille. In summer enjoy a crepe in the courtyard at the Creperie Beaurepaire.
Nightlife: try the popular La Scala for some deep beats under the arches. Or aim for the larger and themed rooms at the Network Café. Students often visit this venue and it can be hard to gain entry from the selective door staff.
Shopping: Euralille is the city’s largest shopping centre and is found between the two main train stations. Another popular feature found in Lille, is the Lu Furet du Nord, which is the largest bookstore in Europe with over eight levels and thousands of titles.
Culture: Visit one of the best museums in France, namely the Musee des Beaux-Arts. Here some of the most impressive paintings from the 15th to 20th century can be seen.
