About Lisbon

When people think of Portugal they mostly think of the Algarve, so the lack of tourists in Lisbon is refreshing. You’ll often find that you have the winding alleyways and cobbled street to yourself, which makes exploring the city a pleasure. Parts of Lisbon are undeniably shabby but this somehow adds to its charm and adds a nice contrast to the more grandiose sides of the city.

Lisbon is built on seven hills so there are lots of possibilities to get a fantastic view of the city, St George’s Castle offering one of the best. There are lots of galleries and fascinating architecture to admire, as well as plenty of shops, theatre and clubs to visit. Lisbon is not known for its cuisine but with a bit of research you’ll enjoy some delicious meals, and the relatively cheap prices help too.

Culture: Spend a day in the historic town of Belém, which is located just a few kilometres from Lisbon. Among other things, you’ll find two of Portugal’s most iconic monuments: Torre de Belém nd the Monsteiro dos Jeronimos.

Restaurant: Terreiro do Paço offers a great menu and is popular with the food loving locals.

Nightlife: Luz is the coolest club in the city and lets you dance until the early hours. Biarro Alto and Chiado are the two districts where the trendy locals go for drinks.

Shopping: Baixa is the place to go to find vintage as well as designer clothes at reasonable prices.
