About Montpellier
Founded by Jewish, Muslim and Christian people, this city values tolerance and is a welcoming place all year round. Montpellier is a vibrant and confident place with great access to local beaches and vineyards and mountain landscapes.Start your grand tour of Montpellier by strolling the medieval town centre, taking in the historical and beautiful streetscapes from Place de la Comedie up to the Place de la Canourgue. A great way to spend the summer afternoon, is to visit the Jardin des Plantes, which is the oldest botanic garden in France. A visit here can be also combined with a trip to the grand Cathedrale St. Pierre nearby - the massive cylindrical pillars supporting the porch are quite a distinctive feature.
The city of Montpellier is famous for its great beaches. Take a short bike ride from the centre of town to the busy beach atmosphere or venture a little further away for more quieter and relaxed beaches.Depending on your preferences Montpeillier has something to offer during all of the seasons.

Shopping: Try the Sunday Farmers Market or the daily market at the place de la Comedie. Alternatively fill your Sunday absorbing the culture and vibes from the Sunday Market at Palavas les Flots. The Marche aux Puces de la Paillade is also a popular local market.
Culture: The Opera Comedie is an astonishingly beautiful opera house that is now the centre of local culture. Montpelier also has its own modern venue with regular concerts at the Corum and the city holds regular festivals in celebration of music, dance and modern art forms.
Nightlife: Place de la Comedie is alive with venues all through summer, the café culture and street performances in the area make for a lively evening. Montpellier is known as one of the most gay friendly cities in France and the local Le Heaven is a popular gay nightclub.
Restaurants: For some relaxed tea drinking try the L’Haure Bleue (The Blue Hour), in central Montpellier, or for a less formal atmosphere join the local students at the popular student café/bar Le Vert Anglais.
