About Tallinn

Since independence from the Soviet Union was claimed, the city of Tallinn has really thrived and has even been hailed as the ‘Mini- Prague’. Tallinn really is a perfectly charming and pleasant city. The highlights of this city are concentrated in the old town and the surrounding medieval city walls. The 400,000 inhabitants of this small city are as serious about their art, as they are about great food and celebrating late into the night.

Exploring the Old Town by foot is easy; wonder down the main shopping streets of Viru, taking in the beauty of the clean cobbled streets, medieval and baroque city churches and museums. The old Town Hall (Raekoda) is worth a visit, the building is unmistakable thanks to its unique twisted spire and end the afternoon over a strong coffee in one of the fashionable cafes and bars nearby. If you fancy a short trip out of the city, try visiting the Kadriorg Palace and the Parklands, which adds a stunning summer-time highlight to your Tallinn trip.

Tallinn hosts festivals all year round: Time your visit in June to experience the Midsummer Festival and the Old Town Days Festival or July for the Baltic’s largest Beer Festival. Alternatively visit in November/December to see the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and the enchanting Christmas Markets.

Shopping: The busiest and trendiest street for shopping is the Viru Gate in the All-Linn (Lower Town).

Architecture: The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral almost demands a visit. This orthodox cathedral can be found on the hillside of Toompea Hill in the Old Town.

Culture: Visit the Tallinn City Museum for a better understanding of the city’s history.

Restaurants: Kompressor restaurants make famous extra- large stuffed pancakes that both local students and tourists enjoy.

Nightlife: The nightclubs and bars of Tallinn can mostly be found in the Old Town. Strong numbers of techno and dance music fans visit Club Hollywood regularly.
